Getting Started

This section will guide Faculty on the Blackboard Ultra Course Structure and what Faculty need to know.

Welcome Area Overview

We wanted to provide some information about the Start Here/Welcome area of Ultra. We created a walkthrough video for you to help explain how the Start Here area works for you and the students. If your class is in progress, please review this for your future understanding. If your course is about to start, it will be very useful for you to review this video and follow along.

Differences between Original and Ultra courses

The Blackboard Ultra course view is more modernized and responsive on all devices. In Blackboard Original the menu was on the left side of the page. In Blackboard Ultra, all the menu items are on the right side of the page, and the top of the page. The course content is always on the home page itself. The Homepage is the Course Content page. This is more intuitive to students, bringing them right to what they need to pay attention to.

Top Menu in Blackboard Ultra

In Ultra, the top menu is where you can access your calendar, gradebook, discussions, and more. Learn more about it in the accompanying video:

Details and Actions Side Menu in Blackboard Ultra

In Ultra, the Details and Actions Side Menu is similar to your course management area in Blackboard Original.

Working with Modules

A learning module is a container for organized collections of content. You can use learning modules in your course as containers for organized collections of content. Modules let students navigate from one content item to the next without distractions or extra clicks. A learning module helps immerse students in the lesson or concept you're teaching. If you use a textbook or other materials as the basis for your course curriculum, modules are an effective and logical way to group content to match the pace of these materials.

Editing Outside of a Module in Blackboard Ultra

The accompanying video reviews how to edit the outsides of a module in Blackboard to change the title, description, and visibility. It also discusses the ability to change the image located to the left of the module name and description.

Accessing and Understanding How Modules Work in Blackboard Ultra

皇家华人鈥檚 Blackboard Ultra Modules are the 鈥淯nits鈥 in our template. The modules each contain an overview page and learning materials. If we migrated your course, then the module will have those areas and your content from the previous course will be put in the appropriate spots.

Working on the Inside of your Module:

Our new Blackboard Ultra Template features modules that are organized by week or aligned with your course unit. In this section you will learn more about the features inside your module.
